Angelica and I have birthdays within five days of each other in February, so we like to celebrate by going on a trip together every year around that time.

This year, I picked NYC. It was Angelica’s first time out there, so I wanted to make sure she got the full experience… everything from downtown, midtown, uptown, the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and a few spots in between.

This trip was full of legendary moments. Angelica is huge fan Bob James, and has never seen him perform live. On our first night in the city, the legend himself just happened to be performing at the world-famous Blue Note, and I surprised her with some tickets. For those who are up on Bob James, then you know he’s one of the most sampled artists in hip-hop. Everyone from Slick Rick, Nas, Common, Jeru, Wu-Tang, Ghostface, Freddie Gibbs, Missy Elliot, and more have sampled him. She shed a couple tears watching him perform, and I’m not gonna lie, I may have shed a tear listening to Bob play “Angela,” or as you may know it, the theme song from the show “Taxi.” That nostalgia hit my soul, man. Talib Kweli was an amazing host, and Slick Rick the Ruler made a guest appearance. DJ Premier of Gangstarr even showed up… NYC is wild.

I treated us to a Lakers-Nets game, a Rome Streetz concert, and a comedy show with Cipha Sounds and Wil Sylvince.

We ended up getting our flights back to Denver canceled as a blizzard moved in the night before we were supposed to leave. It ended up being a blessing in disguise, as the minds behind SidetalkNYC hosted a snowball fight in Washington Square Park… Spider-Cuz even showed up with the Henny. It was complete chaos, and a perfect way to end the trip.

Anyway, I’m rambling, peep the photos below. Peace.
