I woke up to the news that the legendary DJ Spinbad had passed away. I met Spinbad back in July 2017 when DJ Low Key had brought him out to spin Goodness alongside DJ Revolution and Sounds Supreme. In an industry where you meet a ton of assholes and prima donnas, Spinbad was legit one of the nicest, most down to earth DJs I had the pleasure of shooting during my many years documenting Low Key’s Solution and Goodness parties. And even though Spinbad is/was a legend in his own right, he had no problem showing love. I remember him bigging me up on my photos, and he showed love to all the DJs who spun alongside him that day.
Upon hearing the news of Spinbad’s passing this morning, I immediately started going through my archives to find the photos from this day. A couple things stood out to me… 1.) I miss shooting these parties. These photos serve as a time capsule and remind me of the friends I made and the moments we can never get back. Just look at all these smiles. Hopefully, we can get back to a place where we can enjoy each other’s company like this. And 2.) 2020 has taken so much from us. It’s a year that has tested us in every way possible. We need to appreciate each other now because no one is promised tomorrow. The petty beefs that often come between us are inevitable, but it’s those who choose to overcome their pride who can move forward without regrets.
