It was an honor to be able to participate in this year’s Photoville. Being able to see my images of 27th and Larimer in New York under the Brooklyn Bridge with some of my favorite people alongside me was good for my soul.
I pressed the shutter, but these images are and will always be a collaboration between me and my people on the block.
And I’m still at a loss for words when I think about these photos sharing space with those of icons like Jamel Shabazz, Joseph Rodriguez, and so many more talented storytellers.
Lastly, I gotta show love to Nicole Motta for including me and “God Bless The Block” in Fresh Mercado’s “A Proclamation of Presence”.
Most people don’t know this, but Nicole gave me the nudge to complete “God Bless The Block” back in 2023. It’s special when you get to collaborate with someone who respects your work and treats it with dignity. I know how time intensive it can be to do this kind of work, making sure everyone shines equally. Her attention to detail was inspiring. I’m thankful for her creating these spaces for our stories to be told.
